Heather Hansen began working at MacArthur Park Lutheran Church as the Director of Youth and Family Ministries in January of 1997, just after completing her requirements for secondary teacher certification in Texas and her Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.  She worked part time for the church and part time as a Science and Math teacher for the middle school at Mac Arthur Park.  In August of 1999, Heather took a full time position with the church.  In December 2004, she earned a Master’s degree in Youth and Family Ministry from Luther Seminary in St. Paul.

Heather has served in a number of leadership roles throughout the Lutheran church including serving as a local manager for the San Antonio Youth Gathering in 2006, a member of the ELCA Youth Ministry Network Board, and a planner for many synodical Junior High gatherings.  Two of Heather’s favorite things to do are write materials for devotion and discussion for these events and train other leaders.  She also enjoys taking the youth of the congregation on retreats, mission trips, and outdoor adventures.

Just recently, Heather was took a quarter time staff member position with the Southwestern Texas Synod of the ELCA to serve as a youth ministry coordinator.  She also teaches youth ministry classes at Texas Lutheran University and loves working with the college students.

Heather is married to Mark and they have two children Hannah and Alex.  Both Heather and Mark grew up in San Antonio and attended Lutheran churches in the area.  Heather loves to spend time with her family, read, exercise, be outside camping or boating, and watch movies.
