Sunday March 14
Luke 15:1-3,11b-32.  "The Loving Father."---Pastor Paul Ziese
In Luke 15, Jesus is being criticized.  Jesus responds with three parables about being lost.  The third parable should be called "The Parable of the Loving Father."  The younger son ends up wanting to be a slave.  The older son ends up acting like a slave.  The father does not want to be a slaveholder.  The loving father gives us an image of God.  The loving father wants his house to be a place of celebration.  This parable applies to communities of faith.  Many outside the church accuse church members of being like the older son.  Many inside the church accuse those outside the church of acting like the younger son.  Both groups need to be forgiven by a loving Father.  This parable has implications for MacArthur Park Lutheran Church.  We need to resist being judgmental and moralistic.  We need to recognize our own need for forgiveness.  We need to be hospitable and inviting.  The Loving Father calls us to be in relationship.

Maundy Thursday April 1
1 Corinthians 11:23-26.  "New Traditions."---Pastor Paul Ziese
What are some new traditions that have been started in your life?  Maundy Thursday is about new traditions started by Jesus.  Holy Communion creates a new community.  In Communion, we receive forgiveness.  This sacrament is "for you."  In the Lord's Supper, time has meaning.  We are reminded of our baptism.  We receive nourishment for daily living.  We are united in Christ.  So come to the Lord's Table.
