Rev. Heather Anderson Hansen
Pastor Heather Hansen, Part Time Associate Pastor, was called to serve MacArthur Park Lutheran Church in October, 2015. However, she is not new to Mac Park! She previously served as Youth Director for the congregation from 1996-2009.
Pastor Heather was born in Minnesota, but grew up in San Antonio. She graduated from MacArthur High School in 1991 and attended Texas A&M, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1995, as well as earning a State of Texas Secondary Education Teaching certificate.
Pastor Heather began her work as a part time Youth Director for MacArthur Park Lutheran Church and part time Science and Math teacher at the MacArthur Park Lutheran School. She has a love for youth and children and a passion for teaching. This led to a Master’s of Arts Degree in Children, Youth and Family Ministry from Luther Seminary in 2004, while she served as full time Youth Director for the congregation.
Pastor Heather began teaching as an adjunct instructor for Texas Lutheran University in the Theology department in January, 2007, and took on a small part time role as Synod Youth Ministry Coordinator a few months later. In 2009, she left her Youth Director position at MacArthur Park to pursue a larger role in synod ministry, teaching at TLU, and a small role in Campus Ministry at TLU as well. During that time, Pastor Heather began a second degree from Luther Seminary and entered the candidacy process to become an ordained pastor of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She completed her studies and Master of Divinity degree in May 2015 and was called to MacArthur Park Lutheran as Associate Pastor in October 2015. She continues to teach part time at Texas Lutheran University as well.
Pastor Heather is married to Mark Hansen and they have two awesome kids, Alex and Hannah, and a menagerie of pets! She loves to camp, spend time outdoors, play games with the family, read, watch movies and train the family dog, Hopper. Her favorite parts of ministry are working with children, youth and their families, along with young adults too. She also loves to teach, preach, sing and lead creative, interactive worship services.
Pastor Heather’s favorite three Bible verses come from Psalm 46:10 (Be still and know that I am God”), Matthew 5:16 (“Let your light shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”), and Philippians 4:4-7 (“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”).
