BDS Law in Texas
Texas passed a law recently directed at those who are part of the Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement regarding Israel. Companies wanting to do business with the State of Texas cannot be involved with BDS.
Currently, Israel wants to take credit for products being made in the Occupied Territories by stamping "Made in Israel" on the products while the people in these Palestinian territories want to get credit for what they are producing.
The ELCA is not part of the BDS movement, though some of our full-communion partners are involved in BDS. The issue is further complicated by the desire of some in the United States to equate questioning Israel's policies with being anti-Jewish.
The Lutheran Augusta Victoria Hospital on the Mount of Olives continues to be caught up in the complicated politics of the area.
