National Anthem at High School Football Game

This past Friday I sat on the back row of the stadiumat the MacArthur/Johnson game so I could observe the behavior of people during the playing of the National Anthem.

The football players were all standing in numerical order, did nothing controversial, and were attentive to what was happening on the field.

I wish I could say the same for the fans.  Several were engrossed in their cell phones, one man did not remove his hat, two adults continued their conversation, and one was distributing food from the concession stand.

At least when football players kneel, we know they are aware of what is going on.  When fans do not pay attention to what is happening, is that behavior a form of disrespect to the flag?
